Gary Piscopo, ND, LAc is a licensed naturopathic physician and a NCCAOM (National Commission for the Certification of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine) certified diplomate in acupuncture. He graduated in 1999 from Bastyr University in Kenmore, WA, one of the world's leading academic centers for the study of natural medicine. In addition to completing a four-year doctorate degree in naturopathic medicine and a three-year master's degree in acupuncture, he also completed an externship in family counseling with Valley Counseling Associates in Renton, WA.
Originally from New England, Dr. Piscopo became interested in natural medicine while involved in medical research during his service in the US military. He completed his pre-medical studies at the University of California, San Diego and graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree. His previous work in the medical field includes twelve years of clinical experience in psychiatric medicine, involving child, adolescent, and adult inpatient services, at Charter Hospital, Harborview Medical Center San Diego, and Stevens Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Piscopo is an active member of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), the national organization that supports the naturopathic profession. He is also a member of the Washington Association of Naturopathic Physicians, the professional organization for the state of Washington.
Through his personal experiences and travels to other countries, Dr. Piscopo has witnessed first-hand the positive impact of education on people's lives. Because of this, he is a passionate advocate for fostering education - personal, professional, and international. As co-founder and CEO of Healing Mountain Publishing, a premiere publishing house that publishes medical textbooks oriented toward natural and integrative medicine, Dr. Piscopo draws upon almost thirty years of experience in the medical field to support the mission of the extraordinary professionals who work with him in advancing medical education. Together, they are supporting the evolution of natural medicine at this core level.
Dr. Piscopo has written several articles on both naturopathic and Chinese medicine and is the author of In Defense of Natural Therapeutics. He previously worked as a consultant to Thomson Micromedex, a provider of evidence-based clinical knowledge solutions for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and other medical professionals.
Together with his wife, Dr. Jacqueline Thomas, Dr. Piscopo founded the Alpine Valley Natural Health Clinic in 1996, which later became the Alpine Valley Wellness Center in 2007. Building on principles of education, effectiveness, and ecology (outlined in our Mission Statement), Dr. Piscopo integrates interventions from conventional, naturopathic, and Chinese medicine together with psychoemotional approaches such as person-centered therapy, systems family therapy, cognitive therapy, and narrative therapy in assisting his patients. He is available for patient consultations and is currently accepting new patients.
